Writing
We are writers...
'I feel like a real author.' - Year 3 child
'When you look through my writing book, you can see how I am getting better at handwriting and I am writing more.' - Year 1 child
'When we do 'Big Write' we sometimes create our own chapters.' - Year 6 child
At Littletown Primary School, we intend for our children to leave year six as confident, capable, independent writers who not only understand the purpose and importance of writing within wider society but also positively engage with and enjoy the writing process. We intend for our children to be able to communicate and express themselves effectively both verbally and through written form across a range of fiction and non-fiction; including being able to write for a variety of purposes and audiences. We intend for our curriculum to cultivate an enhanced sense of independence and authorship, whilst being inclusive and enriching. Our children are encouraged to take risks when writing; working towards being original and creative as well as critical and reflective. We want our children to draw upon a rich exposure to quality literature so that throughout the writing process they can write as a reader and read as a writer, thus acquiring more ideas to manipulate and apply.
Our goal is for children to progress through their Littletown journey developing from a beginning writer to a mature, independent writer with an ever-increasing passion for reading and a love for writing.
